A Mixture of Emotions, a Mixture of Days

After my last post, one of my very dear acupuncture patients, who has been with me for years, got in touch… She said “I can see you are busy trying to help us, but how are YOU?”

.

And it made me pause + think about it… how am I? Because yes, much of this stuff we are navigating right now, the slowing down, the need to rest, the prioritising health, the different way of looking at life, yes I’ve been living it for years… but these are VERY unchartered waters right now + I am certainly not immune to needing to adjust, transition + process it all too…

.

Some days I feel really sad… I do feel utterly heartbroken that I won’t be running my SACRED REST RETREATS in April + June… I am still grieving for all the French plans I had for this Spring + early Summer…

.

Then some days I feel excited + inspired, knowing that I have so much to offer + share during this strange time… That my holistic + emotional skillset (developed in clinic over the last decade) can really support + help people right now… that feels pretty special…

.

Other days my anxiety is sky high + fear takes over… on those days I need to stay away from the mainstream media, as well as social media… so some days you won’t see me or hear from me on here… those days I focus on the quiet, calming EVERYTHING + being super gentle…

.

There are some days I need to just sleep… I don’t underestimate the energetic impact of this global situation + neither should you… it affects us on all levels – physically, emotionally + spiritually… as I always say to my acupuncture patients, the best + easiest way for our bodies to heal, rebalance or recalibrate is when we are asleep… so do listen to your body if it is asking you to nap… you are allowed…

.

And on other days I am super busy designing gorgeous graphics + putting new things together – things that fill my heart with pure joy… On these days I cannot stop writing, time disappears, everything flows + creation is utterly aligned! They are beautiful days that I really enjoy + I cannot wait to share this new stuff with you in the coming weeks…

.

So how am I? I am a mixture of all these things, I am a mixture of these days, I am a mixture of these emotions – as I’m sure you are too, beautiful souls… and that’s ok… no really, I promise it’s ok…

.

It’s OK to Slow Down

Yesterday a very beautiful soul in my life said to me:

.
“You were so ahead of the curve with your SACRED REST stuff… I totally heard + understood what you said around your retreat last September, I knew it was so needed in the world, but it is only NOW that I can actually do it, action it + FEEL it…”
.
.
And this resonated so deeply with me – it feels incredibly true, like the whole world has now been forced to slow down, when I have been talking about slowing down for many years…
.
.
Like the whole world has been forced to now prioritise their health + healing, when I have been leading the narrative about the importance of this, for well over a decade…
.
.
Like the whole world has been forced to stop + rest, when I have been encouraging + advising my patients to create the space to stop + rest, ever since I started treating in my acupuncture clinics in 2009…
.
.
So for me (+ my poor patients!) this is not new news… but it also isn’t me bragging, or saying “I told you so”, or saying I do this perfectly, because I don’t, none of us do…
.
.
This is me standing right next to you in these times + saying I am here for you, I get this…
.
.
Because I also know how HARD it can be to slow down + rest + prioritise your health, especially when the whole world + society in general has spent years NOT encouraging this… in fact, it has almost looked down on it… (busy + stressed badge of honour anyone?!)
.
.
How many of you feel dreadfully guilty if you’re not “busy” doing ALL the things, ALL of the time? Or think stopping means you’re lazy? Even right now, in the midst of all of this? Are you trying to find “things” to do so you don’t feel restless + “itchy”? Or perhaps you’re overwhelmed with all the things you have to tackle right now, because the world + the way we do things has changed?

.
Honestly my loves, it’s ok to rest today, it’s ok to pause, it’s ok to slow down, it’s ok to just be super gentle with yourself today…
.
.
I am putting together some brand new online audio calls (similar to my solstice / equinox ones) about all this, to support you more with this during April, because I know this strange time we are in, this transition into a new way of life, can feel weird + challenging, but I have the magical Chinese Medicine wisdom that can really help… so keep an eye out for the various SACRED REST SESSIONS coming soon…

And I will repeat again – it IS ok to rest today… it IS ok to pause… it IS ok to slow down… + it IS ok to be SUPER gentle…

You Don’t Need Fixing – Healing Pain, Blocks, Stories + Triggers

As I mentioned in one of the previous videos (see links below), understanding yourself through the lens of the Five Elements, allows you to breathe a sigh of relief, and gives you permission to really just be YOU.

.

And that’s really ALL of you – the parts that we perceive as good or positive, those bits of ourselves we feel comfortable celebrating and showing and sharing… as WELL as the parts we find difficult, the challenging or icky aspects of ourselves that we would really rather not have… those parts that we might feel need fixing, or that we are made to feel (by other people) are wrong or that somehow we should be different…

.

We don’t need fixing! You are not broken… even if you have felt that way for a long time, or if others have projected that image on to you… you do not need to be fixed… many of us have spent so many years, trying to “fix” ourselves, to make ourselves “better”, with all sorts of therapies, seeing all sorts of practitioners…

.

But what I learnt when Five Element acupuncture came into my life, is that you don’t need “fixing”, you just need to have permission to be yourself, you just need to BE – without resistance to our natural ways of being in the world… and yes, sometimes it is different to others around us, sometimes it isn’t comfortable, sometimes we need to make adjustments to get back into alignment with our true nature… but this is where knowing YOUR ELEMENT is SO powerful…

.

The things that cause us pain come from our Element, the blocks we have in our lives often have their root within our Element and its innate challenges… The stories we have told ourselves for years, or been told by OTHERS for years – those narratives that run in the backgrounds of our lives, they are created or seen from the space of our Element… and often what triggers us is to do with the energy of our Element and how we view and interpret the world because of it…

.

The good news is that once we start to understand this, and our Element, we can start to heal some of the wounds that we may have been carrying around for a really long time… And this is because we all have everything we need inside of us – it is the beauty of Chinese Medicine and acupuncture – we help the body heal ITSELF… It’s not about fixing, it’s about restoring you back to YOU again, so you can be in flow…

.

Working with the Five Elements allows us to be the BEST versions of who we really are, who we ALREADY are. Discovering our particular Element, and its associations, its challenges and gifts, is a way of learning more about ourselves. It is a way of accepting ourselves, and getting rid of blocks or old stories that may be holding us back. It reveals a way of life that is positive and empowering, it is a journey to deeper self-understanding and life-changing self-acceptance…

Acupuncture Awareness Week

The FIRST EVER acupuncture awareness week in the UK, as organised by the British Acupuncture Council, is about to hit a clinic near you! It launches on Monday 27th February, finishing on Sunday 4th March. This year’s theme is around dispelling the many myths that still surround acupuncture.

The British Acupuncture Council (BAcC) commissioned research into exactly what the wider public think or know about acupuncture, and they found some interesting results – we acupuncturists couldn’t believe some of the things people still think about  our beloved therapy!

For example, the research revealed that over 21% of the British public think an acupuncturist’s needle is as large as that used in an injection, with even more (26%) thinking it is the same size as a sewing needle! Wowzers, no wonder people don’t want to come for acupuncture if that is what they think!!

The majority (38%) did not know what size of needles acupuncturists used, but the same percentage were put off having acupuncture because they are scared of needles. I can understand this, as I was a needle phobic before having acupuncture – and to some extent I still am scared of medial hypodermic needles, which doctors and nurses find incredibly amusing, given my profession… but they are just SO different, that they may both be called needles, but I actually LOOK FORWARD to having acupuncture, and have it regularly… yet there is still something about injections that makes me nervous.

Acupuncture needles are not only far thinner, they come down to a point as opposed to a cutting edge, feeling vastly different on insertion. Acupuncture needles are in fact the same width as a human hair and some are just 0.13mm in width – proving that size does indeed matter!

In order to set the record straight on needle size, and a whole host of other misconceptions, I am:
