It’s OK to Feel All the Feelings…

My loves, it’s ok to feel a bit scared right now, to feel uncomfortable in this space of uncertainty, this unknown limbo kind of space, the space where your mind has too many “what ifs” to answer, this space where you might jump from A-Z in one step instead of 25… it’s ok…

It’s ok to feel sad, to feel heartbroken, to wish things were different… it’s ok to feel the loss of your plans + dreams + hopes for this year (I know I am right now, very much)… it’s ok to feel grief, to feel that pang, that ache, that tightness in the chest, that big emotion – for the planet, for the people who have lost their lives, for the loved ones we aren’t seeing currently… it’s ok…
.
.
It’s ok if you’re feeling more anxiety than normal right now – in fact, its absolutely natural in these strange times we find ourselves in, as I said yesterday, even if we are seeking the good in this situation, do not underestimate that our systems are under increased stress right now… it’s ok if your sleep is a little weird or disturbed right now… it’s ok if you’re still feeling in shock + like this whole thing just cannot be real… it’s ok…

.
It’s ok because ALL feelings are ok to feel… none of them are good or bad… there is no judgement here… they are just movements of energy within our bodies…
.
.
Would we rather not have some of the difficult or uncomfortable emotions? Yes, of course… but ALL of them are ok, we can FEEL all of the feelings + still be ok…
.
.
Being gentle with ourselves + working WITH the energy is the key thing…
.
.

A Mixture of Emotions, a Mixture of Days

After my last post, one of my very dear acupuncture patients, who has been with me for years, got in touch… She said “I can see you are busy trying to help us, but how are YOU?”

.

And it made me pause + think about it… how am I? Because yes, much of this stuff we are navigating right now, the slowing down, the need to rest, the prioritising health, the different way of looking at life, yes I’ve been living it for years… but these are VERY unchartered waters right now + I am certainly not immune to needing to adjust, transition + process it all too…

.

Some days I feel really sad… I do feel utterly heartbroken that I won’t be running my SACRED REST RETREATS in April + June… I am still grieving for all the French plans I had for this Spring + early Summer…

.

Then some days I feel excited + inspired, knowing that I have so much to offer + share during this strange time… That my holistic + emotional skillset (developed in clinic over the last decade) can really support + help people right now… that feels pretty special…

.

Other days my anxiety is sky high + fear takes over… on those days I need to stay away from the mainstream media, as well as social media… so some days you won’t see me or hear from me on here… those days I focus on the quiet, calming EVERYTHING + being super gentle…

.

There are some days I need to just sleep… I don’t underestimate the energetic impact of this global situation + neither should you… it affects us on all levels – physically, emotionally + spiritually… as I always say to my acupuncture patients, the best + easiest way for our bodies to heal, rebalance or recalibrate is when we are asleep… so do listen to your body if it is asking you to nap… you are allowed…

.

And on other days I am super busy designing gorgeous graphics + putting new things together – things that fill my heart with pure joy… On these days I cannot stop writing, time disappears, everything flows + creation is utterly aligned! They are beautiful days that I really enjoy + I cannot wait to share this new stuff with you in the coming weeks…

.

So how am I? I am a mixture of all these things, I am a mixture of these days, I am a mixture of these emotions – as I’m sure you are too, beautiful souls… and that’s ok… no really, I promise it’s ok…

.

It’s OK to Slow Down

Yesterday a very beautiful soul in my life said to me:

“You were so ahead of the curve with your SACRED REST stuff… I totally heard + understood what you said around your retreat last September, I knew it was so needed in the world, but it is only NOW that I can actually do it, action it + FEEL it…”
.
.
And this resonated so deeply with me – it feels incredibly true, like the whole world has now been forced to slow down, when I have been talking about slowing down for many years…
.
.
Like the whole world has been forced to now prioritise their health + healing, when I have been leading the narrative about the importance of this, for well over a decade…
.
.
Like the whole world has been forced to stop + rest, when I have been encouraging + advising my patients to create the space to stop + rest, ever since I started treating in my acupuncture clinics in 2009…
.
.
So for me (+ my poor patients!) this is not new news… but it also isn’t me bragging, or saying “I told you so”, or saying I do this perfectly, because I don’t, none of us do…
.
.
This is me standing right next to you in these times + saying I am here for you, I get this…
.
.
Because I also know how HARD it can be to slow down + rest + prioritise your health, especially when the whole world + society in general has spent years NOT encouraging this… in fact, it has almost looked down on it… (busy + stressed badge of honour anyone?!)
.
.
How many of you feel dreadfully guilty if you’re not “busy” doing ALL the things, ALL of the time? Or think stopping means you’re lazy? Even right now, in the midst of all of this? Are you trying to find “things” to do so you don’t feel restless + “itchy”? Or perhaps you’re overwhelmed with all the things you have to tackle right now, because the world + the way we do things has changed?
.
.
Honestly my loves, it’s ok to rest today, it’s ok to pause, it’s ok to slow down, it’s ok to just be super gentle with yourself today…
.
.

The Power in Gentleness

Oftentimes gentleness is seen as weak, as “less than”, as TOO feminine…
.
.
But when did gentleness become a dirty word? When did taking our time + being super mindful of our needs become a negative thing? When did giving ourselves space + gently feeling into things, become wrong?
.
.
How did it become gentleness VERSUS action? Or gentleness vs progress? Or gentleness vs power? Who said it had to be one or the other? When did these concepts become mutually exclusive?! Because they’re really not…
.
.
You do not need to feel bad for wanting a more gentle energy in your life, a more gentle way of living + being in the world…
.
.
Embracing gentleness does not mean you will lack anything in your life, that you will “fall behind”, or not achieve anything… You can still be super successful, exponentially powerful, + progress positively + abundantly in your life, without having to push, force, hustle, strive or struggle…
.
.
And this is because there is innate POWER in gentleness, there is innate power in you, beautiful soul…
.
.
Think of the gentle stream that wears away mighty rock over time – its gentleness has power + STRENGTH…
.
.
Or the tiny seed that slowly but surely makes its way above the ground, through the blanket of snow, to the light – its gentleness has power + GROWTH…
.
.
And what about the new moon that arrives tonight, with its darkness that is perfect for reflecting on what we wish to manifest next – its gentleness has power + POTENTIAL…
.
.
Now I don’t know about you, but I think strength, growth, potential + power, all from a base of gentleness, sounds perfect, right?
.
.

What Does it Mean to be Fragile?

I was talking with one of my gorgeous patients in clinic at the beginning of the week + the topic of being “fragile” came up…
.

It’s funny the things we tell ourselves – we shouldn’t be fragile, we shouldn’t feel like we need care or support, we shouldn’t be cross, we shouldn’t need love, we shouldn’t care what others think of us, we shouldn’t feel fear…
.
.
We tell ourselves we should be stronger, we should be “better than that”, we should be different, we should be more like other people…
.
.
But why shouldn’t you be fragile? Why shouldn’t you be whatever it is you are telling yourself you SHOULDN’T be? What are you making it mean?
.
.
I told my patient that being or feeling fragile (because the two aren’t always the same thing), doesn’t make you any less amazing, any less beautiful, any less special or actually any less STRONG…
.
.
When we think of the most exquisite bone china, or the most stunning of orchids, we don’t dismiss them purely because they need a little more care or they need handling slightly more gently…
.
.
Yes an orchid might not thrive if it is planted outdoors in the Winter snow, but if we KNOW + understand that, if we know + understand what it needs to blossom + bloom (i.e. light + warmth + care + gentleness), it’s FULL BEAUTY can come out…
.
.
